    Merry Christmas!
Things have been a bit hectic around here the last couple of weeks, partly because we went to Walt Disney World for five days last week to celebrate Victor's fifth birthday. I'll go into more detail on that later (unless [info]sulinpanda beats me to it), but one effect is that we have not had a chance to send out Christmas cards. Apologies for that...

We're doing the traditional family get-togethers and such today, so I'll leave you with a tradition of my own : Christmas song lyrics. This one's from [info]halioffirpine, better known as Matthew Ebel, from the High Orbit Holiday Special. Trust me, if you haven't heard this album, follow the link and grab it; you won't regret it. :)

Merry Christmas from Cell Block 2

Music and Lyrics © Matthew Ebel Entertainment

We know that it’s that time of year when families come together
to sing and laugh and eat too much and gripe about the weather.
    It’s Christmas, but I’m sad to say we’re in a situation;
we can’t come home until the end of our incarceration.

    (Alien gibberish)

We’re far from family but still the locals treat us kindly.
The guards are cheerful even though they’re ordered to confine me.
The aliens across from us got nicked for snowball fighting,
they made us earwax candles to provide some festive lighting.

In this cozy prison cell, from all the inmates and my crew,
merry Christmas from cell block two.
Merry Christmas from cell block two.

Who stole baby Jesus from Oog’s nativity set, huh?

The mobsters down in cell block one sent us a pile of fishes
and someone swiped the warden’s credit card to buy us dishes.
We tried to start some caroling but no one dared to sing.
We asked what Santa Claus looked like but no one saw a thing.

Our Yule log was courtesy of Blarg who’s in for arson,
although he swears his crime’s impersonation of a parson.
    Our neighbor’s from a distant world, he’s serving 10-20.
He gifted us a shiv to cut the cake ’cause he’s got plenty.

We know we won’t be here for long-
like everyone that’s in here, we did nothing wrong.
We hope that we’ll be out before it gets too late,
but in or out we plan to celebrate.

We made nog in our commode but no one wants to drink it.
(I guess we could’ve used the sink but no one thought to think it.)
We had a tree with ornaments and tinsel colored gold
but yesterday it disappeared, they say it made parole…

from this cozy prison cell, from all the inmates and my crew,
merry Christmas from cell block two.
Merry Christmastime from all of us to all of you…

Hey, #4255, keep it down in there!

It seems that one of the reasons why the Constitutional Court took until December 15th 2009 with picking up the lawsuit against the previous Merkel administration's telecommunications data retention law is the "inconvenient" circumstance, that this law now might hurt the current Merkel-administration severely in the affair of the badly done attempted cover-up of the massacre in Kunduz.
Merkel is infamous for being an avid cellphone user in regard of sending and receiving SMS both private and office-related. And just like E-mail, SMS services are under the strongest surveillance by the telecommunications data retention law, allowing authorties to even store copies of the messages automatically for six months, whereas with regular communication via phone "only" the calling and called numbers are recorded. If you're using cellphones, it's the number and current location of the cellphone.
The parliamentary investigation committee might get a lot of insight for its current inquiry of "who knew what when?" from Merkel's automatically recored SMS. But, since Merkel's role in this won't be investigated until next October, the data will have been lawfully deleted by then. And even if Merkel gets dragged in front of the committee just in time, the members of the committee are not really willing to go anywhere with the investigation (unless it's shortsighted party opportunism), since things are likely still the same as they were, when the BND's operations were investigated by a parliamentary investigation committee. The then-still minister of the Interior, Wolfgang Schäuble, later tried to start up a discourse on whether it would be necessary at all to have the parliament inquiry on the activities of the BND, even though it provides such a decent farce on srsly investigating possibly questionable practices of the BND.

    Yearly meme
Well, it's nearing Christmas and the end of a 2009 that's been rather a mixed bag for kitty, I've had some major downers which have been countered by some awesome experiences. Here's that 2009 meme that's been floating around:

    1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Attended an open-air concert - which was awesome, and also fursuited for the first time at Anthrocon :3

    2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
*pats his belly* Nope, and yes, I seem to make the weight loss one -every- year, same old story this year

    3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister - a beautiful nephew named Leo :)

    4. Did anyone close to you die?
    No

    5. What countries did you visit?
    United States

    6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Motivation in my creativity, much more confidence, closeness with friends and cash in my pocket

    7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
7th February - the day my nephew was born, it all changed from there

    8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
    Getting here, man. Getting here.

    9. What was your biggest failure?
    Too many to list...

    10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No fresh ones, although my knee was given the all clear by the surgeon in September ^^

    11. What was the best thing you bought?
Tickets for the Oasis gig - I took my Dad as a birthday present and he loved it :)

    12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Again, too many to name, I've known some people this year who've been going through some right hardships, and I've seen them come through them brighter

    13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Can't think of anyone in particular

    14. Where did most of your money go?
Petrol to drive and see friends, as well as my ever-increasing CD collection :D

    15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The Snow Patrol gig! To see one of my favourite bands in concert was truly awesome, and even though things didn't go according to plan with a friend who was -supposed- to be coming with me, the gig was wonderful and I had no voice by the end of it, and hearing Chasing Cars live sent shivers down my spine :)

    16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
I Dreamed A Dream - thanks to Susan Boyle's remarkable performance on BGT

    17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
    a) happier or sadder?
Sadder - so much has gone on this year, it's been a very mentally challenging one for me
    b) thinner or fatter?
*pats his belly* most definatly more portly than last year
    c) richer or poorer?
Slightly poorer, or just disorganised with what I do have

    18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Drawing, painting, improving what work skills I have, web design

    19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
    Worrying...

    20. How will you be spending Christmas?
    At home with the family

    21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Not so far, though I'm thankful for good friends

    22. How many one-night stands?
    *blush*

    23. What was your favorite TV program?
    Life - especially in HD

    24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Not -hate- as such, just a slight disliking

    25. What was the best book you read?
    Pride & Prejudice & Zombies :D

    26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Several for me - Susan Boyle's memorable performance on BGT for one, but the band that sticks out is White Lies - they supported Snow Patrol at the gig I went to and were simply amazing, Farewell To The Fairground is one of my tracks of the year

    27. What did you want and get?
For the surgeon to give my knee the all-clear, and in September this year my worries were eased :)

    28. What did you want and not get?
    A new job ;_;

    29. What was your favorite film of this year?
After last night - Avatar :3 simply beautiful visuals

    30. What did you do on your birthday?
Just a regular day, though I did have fun with friends at the weekend after (boo for wednesday birfdays :D)

    31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Independence - I simply MUST move out soon, it's driving me mental

    32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
    Large man sizes

    33. What kept you sane?
    Supportive friends

    34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Shakira - especially after her She Wolf vid *rawwwwwwwwwwr!*

    35. What political issue stirred you the most?
The MP's expenses scandal - simply outrageous

    36. Who did you miss?
    Too many to mention - love you all ;_;

    37. Who was the best new person you met?
Again, too many to mention - that's what I love about conventions and random meetups :3

    38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
I must be MUCH more confident in myself and my abilities in 2010 - I CAN do more than what I think I can

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a very properous 2010 full of opportunity and happiness *bigkittyhugs all round*
